Study: OSA common in Type 1 diabetics

YARMOUTH, Maine – Obstructive sleep apnea is common in people with Type 1 diabetes, especially those who have had the disease for a long time, says a study reported on The incidence of sleep apnea is linked to abnormal glycemia and microvascular complications, but not obesity. Sleep apnea was also associated with higher rates of complications, including retinopathy. The link between Type 1 diabetes and OSA has been reported in several previous studies, but this study is the first to use both continuous glucose monitoring and sleep studies.
