FARGO, N.D. - Noridian Administrative Services, the Jurisdiction D DME MAC, issued billing reminders for oxygen equipment last week. Noridian said claims are being billed incorrectly when starting a new rental period for oxygen equipment. Claims for the replacement of oxygen equipment for the first month of use only are billed using the HCPCS code for the new equipment and either the RA or RP modifier depending on the date that the equipment is furnished. The RA modifier is used when replacing equipment on/after January 1, 2009. The RP modifier is used for equipment replaced before January 1, 2009.
