CMS official outlines agenda

WASHINGTON - Acting CMS Administrator Kerry Weems plans to keep an "arm's-length" relationship with the healthcare industry, the Washington Post reported last week. Weems, who awaits confirmation in the U.S. Senate, made the comment at his first press conference on Wednesday. He referred specifically to Medicare Advantage plans, saying he plans to make public the "corrective action plans" reached by CMS and plans that have violated Medicare regulations. "I simply am not going to tolerate marketing abuses in this area," Weems said. At the press conference, Weems outlined his agenda and priorities for the agency. He said, "We're going to do business in the daylight," reported Congressional Quarterly Health Beat.
