MARIETTA, Calif. - Coloplast, Europe's largest maker of colostomy products, has acquired Mentor's urology unit for $463 million, the company reported last month. "This will give Coloplast an expanded position and a better footprint in the United States that I think will improve our ability to compete in all our business areas," President Jan Frederiksen told HME News. Coloplast will relocate all U.S. operations for sales, marketing and shared services to Minneapolis-St. Paul. As part of the acquisition and restructuring effort, the Mentor facility in Santa Barbara, Calif., and Coloplast's Marietta and Atlanta facilities will be closed and operations transferred to Minnesota. Coloplast anticipates that the reorganization will occur over a period of 12 to 18 months.
