Company plans new plant, reports record sales

MURRYSVILLE, Pa. - Respironics plans to build a new "world class" manufacturing facility befitting a company that crested $1 billion in sales a year ago and continues to churn out record financial results. The new 165,000-square-foot, $32-million facility will be located on 56 acres about seven miles from the company's corporate headquarters in Murrysville. It will serve as the primary manufacturing plant for products related to sleep disordered breathing, a key driver in the company's success. Respironics currently manufactures sleep products in its Murrysville plant, along with some ventilation and neonatal products, said Maryellen Bizzack, marketing and communications manager. Respironics officials expect the new facility, which can be expanded to 225,000 square feet if needed, to be completed in 14 to 16 months. "It's indicative of our growth," Bizzack said in late July. "We've been in the current manufacturing facility in Murrysville since about 1990, and the last time we did an expansion was in 1993. If we continue along our current path we are going to top out on our capacity. This takes care of sleep for the foreseeable future." The Murrysville location covers 125,000 square feet. Financial results Respironics reached new heights in fiscal year 2007, reporting record sales of $1.2 billion, a 14% increase over last year, the company reported July 25. For 2008, the company expects to generate between $1.345 billion and $1.375 billion in revenues.
