Covidien enjoys sales increase

MANSFIELD, Mass. - Covidien reported a 14% increase in net sales for its fiscal third quarter, which ended June 30. Net sales were $2.93 billion, compared to $2.56 billion a year ago.

For the third quarter of 2011, Covidien reported operating income of $615 million, versus $539 million during the same quarter a year ago.

Covidien reported operating income of $1.78 billion during the first nine months of 2011, compared $1.62 billion a year ago.

Covidien manufactures a wide array of medical and surgical devices and supplies. The company in a press release said growth segments included oximetry and monitoring, enteral feeding and incontinence products. Airway and ventilation sales were below last year, due to lower ventilator sales and the sale last year of its sleep therapy line to PH Invest.
