DC to B2B: StrongArm Cane seeks pick up from providers

CHICAGO – Peak Degrees secured a distribution deal with Sunset Healthcare Solutions right before Medtrade West in April to crack the HME market for its StrongArm Comfort Cane.

Chris Pesek, a sales and marketing exec at Peak Degrees, says the company wants to give people as many opportunities as possible to buy the cane, which is already available online.

“It started direct to consumer to prove the demand and that has been proven,” Pesek said of the numerous testimonials and positive reviews on the cane’s website and on Amazon. “Now we want to take it to the medical industry.”

The StrongArm Comfort Cane is an FDA-approved ergonomic cane that can be used on both right and left arms. It can also be used as a sit-to-stand assist.

The HME market is particularly important for people who want to touch and feel a product before they buy it, Pesek says.

“It looks different, and it feels different, and it’s hard to push that message online via video,” he said. “We even like to say, ‘Feel the StrongArm difference.’”

Tom Munar, business and product development manager at Sunset Healthcare Solutions, says the company is always looking for “unique” products to add to its portfolio.

“When you can identify products that can help drive revenue to our DME partners, but also improve patient outcomes and, ultimately, patients’ lives, it’s a true win for everyone,” he said.

And HME providers who decide to carry the StrongArm Comfort Cane will see increased revenue, most often cash, Pesek says.

“The people who typically buy the StrongArm Cane already have one or two other mobility products and they’re buying it because they still have a need,” he said. “They don’t feel as independent or confident as they know they can be."
