Diversity spurs growth

A rehab provider's increasingly diverse product mix prompted it to spread out into a new 18,000-square-foot corporate headquarters in May. Irvine, Calif.-based Source One Medical still relies on power mobility devices for up to 50% of its business, but due to national competitive bidding and other reimbursement challenges, it has expanded into other products, including respiratory (See HME News, January 2007). The new headquarters centralizes operations for all products. "We were busting at the seams in our previous location," said Nate Forrest, marketing manager. "We needed this to strengthen the base of our company." Source One's old headquarters, also in Irvine, Calif., was only about 7,000 square feet. Previously, its Respiratory Operations Center in Salt Lake City handled some operations internally. With more room to grow, Source One Medical has hired about 40 new employees this year, most of whom work in the provider's billing and collections department, Forrest said. "That's by far our fastest growing department," he said. Most recently, Source One diversified its product mix further by launching a Web site, www.sourceoneadultcare.com, to allow customers to order incontinence supplies for home delivery. "We're proud of our company and what the future holds, in spite of competitive bidding and all the other challenges we're facing," said President Dennis Kline. Source One has 11 branches in states from Arizona to Georgia.
