Do we need a third show?

Do we need a third show?

The first HME Exposition & Conference was held April 21-23 in Baltimore and the question remains: Does the small home medical equipment industry need a third major trade show (Medtrade and Medtrade Spring being the other two)?

It does if you believe that competition is good. As a long time speaker at Medtrade and Medtrade Spring, I've never seen show officials reach out to exhibitors and attendees as aggressively as they have since the HME Expo came on the scene last summer. Previously, the Medtrade shows had no pressure to do this. With no competition, you might say, Medtrade had a captive audience.

But what happens if the HME Expo goes away?  Will Medtrade continue its renewed interest in customer service? Will it continue to work hard to meet the industry's needs for networking, education and lobbying? Maybe, but I wouldn't bet on it. Competition is a great motivator, and without it, performance tends to slip.
