Fastrack ‘exceeds expectations’

PLAINVIEW, N.Y.--Less than a year after launching a free buying group for providers, Fastrack Healthcare Systems has racked up 485 members. “In a lot of ways, the response has exceeded my expectations,” said President Spencer Kay. “We've become one of the largest buying groups out there, and to do that in eight months, that's pretty exciting.” Fastrack's buying group comprises 430 HME providers, and 55 home infusion providers and homecare agencies. Of its roughly 1,000 software customers, 268 are members of the buying group. Additionally, seven vendors are partners of the buying group. Fastrack's buying group has resonated with providers, Kay said, because it offers not only products but also services. One of its vendor partners, for example, helps providers negotiate better credit card rates. “There are all sorts of ways to save money,” he said. “Providers are learning that they can't control reimbursement, but they can control overhead.” The ability to purchase products online has also been a big draw of the buying group, Kay said. More than 10,000 products-everything from disposable diapers to diabetic supplies to power wheelchairs-are available at www.onlyfastrack.com. “What's neat is that providers can order products from vendors who aren't part of the buying group, but if it's a product offered by a vendor who is part of the buying group, it tells them, ‘You know, you can get this from Invacare for $10 less,'” Kay said.
