Foreigners eye opportunities
MEDTRADE - Delegates from as far away as Kenya and Kazakhstan traveled to Medtrade this year to drum up business with U.S. manufacturers.
“The delegates are very happy,” said Humphrey Lilech, a commercial specialist and one of 15 delegates from Kenya. “They are amazed at the opportunity and the products. One of the things that Kenyans accept is the quality of U.S. products.”
Delegates from eight countries - Vietnam, Pakistan, Philippines, Mexico, Taiwan, Switzerland, as well as Kazakhastan and Kenya - attended Medtrade as part of an ongoing effort by the U.S. Department of Commerce to boost U.S. exports. Medtrade’s international contingent includes exhibitors and attendees from 90 to 100 countries.
Like Lilech, the delegates held U.S. manufacturers in high regard.
“People highly regard U.S. medical equipment because of the durability and quality of the products,” said Le Hoang Anh, a commercial specialist from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Qamar Mahmood is president of Contact (Pvt), a distributor of medical products in Kazakhstan. He attended Medtrade “to further expand the arena of sales for U.S. manufacturers in Kazakhstan and other central Asian countries.”
