WASHINGTON - The SADMERC has updated its temporary fee schedules for seating and back cushions, and they now include payment allowables for an array of adjustable seat cushion products that have been assigned to K0108.
This update is very significant because the payment allowables have increased substantially for those adjustable products that have been assigned to K0108, according to Tom Borcherding, senior vice president Global Medical Sales for the ROHO Group.
Initially, reimbursement many back and seat cushions was so low that providers worried they could not profitably provide them.
Manufacturers with adjustable products assigned to K0108 include ROHO, Sunrise Medical, Varilite, Invacare and Otto Bock.
AAHomecare's Rehab and Assistive Technology Council expects to hear the following from the SADMERC:
1) Fee schedules will again be updated in January, 2005. With the exception of those adjustable products assigned to K0108, RATC expects permanent allowables to be established for the balance of the new HCPCS codes.
2) Permanent HCPCS codes and allowables (and fully supporting policy) will be developed for those adjustable products currently assigned to K0108. This will not occur until April, 2005 at the earliest.
