Healthcare reform? Bah, humbug!

Healthcare reform? Bah, humbug!

.!.

The Transformers: The Movie HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius Slaughter hd announced today that President Obama has designated this as the “Year of Community Living.” Boy, given that the HME industry is looking down the barrel of more reimbursement cuts, you could have fooled me.

This new initiative commemorates the 10th anniversary of Olmstead v. L.C., which recognizes that “unjustified institutional isolation of persons with disabilities is a form of discrimination” under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

I guess it's too much to expect that politicians might view HME products and services as part of this noble aim—that they are much less expensive than institutional care and designed to keep people in their homes and, as much as possible, a part of the community.

Heck, they don't even realize that Medicare Part A and Part B are interrelated and not independent of each other.

With this kind of ignorance, not to mention the influence of powerful special interests with very deep pockets, I'm not optimistic that healthcare reform, which I support in theory, will be anything but an expensive bureaucratic burden for most of us.
