Hospital system slams bid program

BERKLEY, Calif. -The University of California Health System has urged CMS to carefully evaluate the impacts of its competitive bidding program, saying that hospitals within its system continue to see significant problems obtaining DME. The comments were made in response to CMS's latest rules proposal covering the bidding program (CMS 1651-P), according to AAHomecare. The health system also noted that many winning bidders have actually dropped out of the program, creating delays in patient discharges and forcing some patients to purchase items that should have been covered by Medicare. UC Health System is one of America's largest academic health systems, with 12 hospitals and 18 health professional schools over seven campuses.
