Lincare picks up 1,000 respiratory patients in N.E.

SACO, Maine - Lincare acquired 1,000 respiratory patients last month in Maine and New Hampshire from New England Life Care, a hospital-based home medical equipment provider.

The deal could also pay off for independent providers. Prior to the deal New England Life Care (NELC) captured many of the respiratory patients discharged by its 17 hospital partners.

Selling the respiratory business to Lincare, gives independent providers a better shot at competing for those patients, said Tom Andrews, director, homecare sales for Merriam Graves in Charlestown, N.H.

“In certain markets, you could not get a referral out of those facilities,” Andrews said. “I think the doors just got opened to some new referrals.”

NELC’s deal with Lincare included the patients and assets needed to service those patients - concentrators, portable systems, vehicles, respiratory disposables, ect., said Chuck Gigante, NELC’s executive vice president.

NELC decided to sell its respiratory business so to focus on its core competency, home infusion, Gigante said.
