MED signs first agreement under new contracting process

March 10, 2003 Lubbock, TX - The MED Group and Sunrise Medical announce they have reached an agreement encompassing a broad offering of products. This initial award of business to Sunrise Medical is the result of a process which MED began nearly one year ago. Proposals were received for a wide variety of product categories from every major vendor in the industry. "In order to bring our members the best value we determined, with a Member Contract Advisory Team, that a new contracting process was needed," said Scott Austin, Senior Vice President of Vendor Services with The MED Group. "Changing market conditions, reimbursement pressures, and the need for stronger strategic partnerships led us to create this new process." "Our vision to strengthen our members' businesses has been well served by this landmark agreement with Sunrise," added David A. Miller, CEO of The MED Group. "In addition, other vendors will also play vitally important roles and we look forward to announcing those vendors in the near future." "We are very excited that this unique process has led to this partnership opportunity," said Raymond Huggenberger, President and COO for Sunrise Medical. "The similarities in our mission, vision, and values have naturally drawn our organizations together." "We view this as a strategic step in enhancing our long standing relationship with The MED Group and its members," Ken Yannerella, Vice President for National Accounts for Sunrise Medical, explained. "We are proud that we were selected as the lead partner with MED in this competitive marketplace. We look forward to the successful implementation of our new agreement."
