Medtrade to become once-a-year event

Medtrade to become once-a-year event  ‘We’re meeting the industry where they are, not where we want them to be’

York SchwabPHOENIX and ATLANTA – Emerald will combine Medtrade West and Medtrade East into one event in 2023, says Show Director York Schwab.

The change is in response to years of “consistent feedback” from exhibitors and attendees, he says.

“It’s the No. 1 thing I’ve seen on every survey,” he said.

This year, Medtrade West takes place this week in Phoenix and Medtrade East takes place Oct. 24-26 in Atlanta.

Schwab says neither a date nor a location has been set for the 2023 show, which will be called just Medtrade, but he says it won’t interfere with other established events and it will be somewhere centrally located.

“Hopefully, it’ll be in a transportation hub,” he said. “(But) it won’t be in Atlanta.”

“We’ll be in a new locale for a few years and see how it works,” he said.

Schwab credited a new executive team at Emerald, including Kristen McKercher, vice president, Industrial Connections, for being responsive to feedback and for being “open minded” to the idea.

“We’re meeting the industry where they are, not where we want them to be,” he said.

More immediately, however, Schwab’s focus is Medtrade West, which he says will have 15% more exhibitor space and 26% more conference/expo attendees than in 2021.

“We’re looking at a really strong and good show this week,” he said.
