MESA boosts

With increased competition among national, regional and state associations, the Medical Equipment Suppliers Association (MESA) has shaken things up.

MESA, which represents providers in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas, recently revamped its Web site, www.mesanet.org, to make it more user-friendly. It now features, for example, a tool that allows providers to look up contact information for their representatives and senators.

"The Web site's much less static now," said Liz Moran, MESA's executive director.

MESA's Web site also features a "documents" section that allows providers to download everything from a patient letter that industry consultant Jane Bunch referenced during a conference to bulletins from Medicare on the 36-month oxygen cap.

Additionally, MESA has dipped its toes into Webinars. It recently hosted a Webinar on effective training with Chris Calderone, the founder of Lean Consulting Group.

"We realize that nothing replaces face-to-face contact, but for some members, this is a more affordable option," Moran said.

Other changes: more frequent e-mail blasts and expanded conferences.

"All we can do is keep serving our members as we have in the past," Moran said.
