NHIA: Keep drugs timely

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - The National Home Infusion Association (NHIA) has asked CMS to ensure “delivery of home infusion drugs upon discharge from an acute care setting within the earlier of 24 hours or before the patient's next required dose.” For 2009, CMS requires Part D prescription plan sponsors “to ensure that their network home infusion pharmacies provide delivery of home infustion drugs within 24 hours of dicsharge from an acute setting, or later if so prescribed.” The key distinction: The NHIA requires “delivery in time for the patient's next dose, if less than a 24-hour period will pass.” HME
