Pharmacists urged to contact DHS

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - The National Community Pharmacists Association urges members to write Mike Leavitt, secretary of The Department of Health and Human Services, asking him to exempt diabetes supplies and services from a competitive bidding rule so that Medicare patients can continue to have access to community pharmacies and life-saving products and care. Medicare wants to lump self-monitoring blood glucose systems, including meters, strips, and lancets, into the same competitive bidding/supplier accreditation category as durable medical equipment.
