Providers investigate down codes

NEWINGTON, Conn. - Rehab providers are trying to determine whether isolated cases of wheelchair clinicians getting down coded could become a trend. According to Paul Bergantino, president of Connecticut Rehab & Medical Products, Medicare is down coding clinician claims for evaluations to visits, resulting in lower reimbursement. Rehab providers rely on clinicians to do evaluations, and if clinicians aren't paid properly, providers may have a difficult time finding clinicians to do the work. Bergantino said RATC, RESNA and occupational therapy and physical therapy associations all are looking into it. HME HME
