Providers' night to shine

ORLANDO, Fla. - They may serve different markets, but all nine companies receiving an HME Excellence Award at the Orange County Convention Center at this year's Medtrade have one thing in common--a commitment to doing business the right way. Receiving top prizes were Medical Service Co., Cleveland, in HME; J&L Medical Services, Waterbury, Conn., in respiratory; and Health Aid of Ohio, Cleveland, in rehab. Finishing in the first runner-up spots were Valley Home Care, Winchester, Va., HME; Resp-I-Care Home Medical Services, Kingsport, Tenn., respiratory; and Inland Medical & Rehab, Spokane, Wa., rehab. Second runner-ups were Norco, Boise, Idaho, HME; Advocate Home Care Products, Oak Brook, Ill., respiratory; and Central Medical Equipment, Harrisburg, Pa., rehab. Nominees are judged on several factors, including financial performance, administrative procedures (including initiatives like continuous quality improvement), sales and marketing, patient satisfaction, staff training and community involvement. Medical Service Co., J&L and Advocate are first-time winners. In determining the top finishers in each category, the judging panel issued commendations to Medical Service Co. for its innovative use of technology, J&L for strong revenue growth and Health Aid of Ohio for heavy involvement in government affairs.
