RDI hires new national accounts manager

FOLEY, Ala. - Respiratory Distributors in October hired Nick Letson as its new national accounts manager. Before joining RDI, Letson was a senior respiratory analyst for Associated Pharmacies, an independent retail pharmacy cooperative, where he created patient compliance and referral marketing programs for independent providers. He also developed respiratory unit dose packaging programs for Avery Pharmaceuticals and the Letco Companies. Letson's hiring follows Chris Lemley's appointment in August as vice president of national accounts. Option Care outsources contracting services BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. - Option Care in October signed an exclusive three-year agreement with San Francisco-based Broadlane, a provider of business services for the healthcare industry, to deliver outsourced contracting and procurement services. Under the contract, Broadlane will negotiate and manage Option Care's supply and service contracts. The provider will also be the first company to use Broadlane's Procurement Services, a technology-based business process that helps providers simplify order processing and procurement systems. Study: Genetics impacts reaction to albuterol WASHINGTON - Genes affect how asthma patients respond to albuterol, according to results of a new study of adults with mild asthma. Researchers in the Asthma Clinical Research Network, part of the National Institutes of Health, found that over time, how participants responded to daily doses of inhaled albuterol differed depending on which form of a specific gene they had inherited. While a few weeks of regular use of albuterol improved overall asthma control in individuals with one form of the gene, stopping all use of albuterol eventually improved asthma control in those with another form. The trial is the first study of an asthma drug in patients selected by their genotype and could provide important insight as to why albuterol may benefit some people more than others.
