ResMed partners with cardiac company

May 12, 2003 SAN DIEGO - Sleep products manufacturer ResMed has signed a strategic alliance agreement with Guidant Corp., developer of products to treat cardiac and vascular disease. Guidant and ResMed will work together in the areas of sleep-disordered breathing and cardiac rhythm disorders, disease states with a significant patient population overlap. The companies plan to co-market to each other's physician partners and customers, and to collaborate on research and development projects, clinical studies, as well as physician and patient education. "ResMed is committed to raising both public and physician awareness about the inherent cardiovascular dangers of untreated sleep-disordered breathing, said Peter C. Farrell, Ph.D., Chairman and CEO, ResMed. “We are also committed to the ongoing product advancement and development required to meet public health needs for the diagnosis, treatment and management of sleep-disordered breathing." Although ResMed does not expect this alliance to materially contribute to revenue or profit in the short-term, it believes the long-term impact will be positive.
