Sen. McCaskill revisits DME business practices

WASHINGTON - A pair of providers are on tap for the second congressional hearing on DME business practices by Sen. Claire McCaskill's Subcommittee on Financial & Contracting Oversight. The hearing is scheduled for May 22 at 2 p.m. Both providers—Jon Letko, president of Milford, N.J.-based U.S. Healthcare Supply; and Dr. Steve Silverman, president of Boca Raton, Fla-based Med-Care Diabetic and Medical Supplies—were invited to the subcommittee's first hearing on the matter but did not attend. The hearing will focus on several issues broached in the first hearing: DME marketing practices, CMS's oversight of Medicare reimbursement, the agency's ability to control costs, and its ability to detect and prevent improper payments and fraud.
