Shield picks up incontinence biz

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - Shield Healthcare acquired Sierra Home Medical's incontinence customers, the companies announced Jan. 31. Declining reimbursement and higher product costs have continued to reduce profit margins for providers, pushing some to throw in the towel. Cheryl Hornberger, vice president of sales for Shield, said in a statement: "Our sales representatives are being approached every month from providers looking to sell or exit the business in California." Shield is the largest supplier of disposable medical supplies in California and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.
