OLD FORGE, Pa. - It's 25 years and counting for Golden Technologies, which got its start when Robert Golden Sr. and Fred Kiwak began building lift chairs in a one-car garage in West Pittston, Pa.
"I can't believe it has been 25 years," said CEO Rich Golden, Robert's son. "But I am so grateful and thankful, not just for our business, but for our customers and employees. You cannot do it without them."
It has been quite a ride for Golden: The company started out making lift chairs, became a world leader in that market, and eventually moved into scooters, wheelchairs and adjustable beds. That ride, Rich Golden said, shows no sign of slowing down.
The company recently moved into a new 70,000-square-foot lift-chair distribution facility and a new 125,000-square-foot building for its mobility operations.
"We outgrew both facilities," Golden said. "It was a great problem to have."
Product innovation continues to be a focus, he added.
At Medtrade this month, the company will unveil a new line of consumer power wheelchairs.
The three chairs come in a good, better and best formulary, allowing providers to match chairs to different reimbursement levels, Golden said.
