HERMITAGE, Pa. - Vantage Home Medical Equipment and Services positioned itself for growth in July when it acquired Advanced Health Services.

“We want to build scale,” said Tom Sedlak, senior vice president of business development. “This fit into our plan very well.”

That's because the Brookfield, Ohio-based Advanced Health Services is located just north of Youngstown, Ohio—a Round 2 competitive bidding area (CBA). The respiratory-focused provider was one of a handful of contract winners in the Pittsburgh and Cleveland CBAs in Round 1.

Vantage Home Medical Equipment services include home infusion, hospital and physician services, telecommunications and a closed-door pharmacy. Advanced also serves skilled nursing, hospice and assisted-living facilities.

“Value wise and mission wise we are very similar,” said Sedlak. “We are both respiratory care at core, so they meshed well.”

The deal is typical of what analysts are seeing in the HME market these days, says Don Davis.

“Vantage is a regional company and we are starting to see regional companies start to consolidate,” said Davis, a financial consultant with Duckridge Advisors, who advised Advanced on the sale.
