Walgreens expands into Idaho

DEERFIELD, Ill.--Walgreens-OptionCare gained a Northwest presence when it joined forces with Nampa, Idaho-based provider MedNow in August. The company will operate under the name MedNow, a Walgreens Affiliate, in a partnership that benefits both companies, said Michael Polzin, Walgreens spokesman. “We are building off their business in an area we didn't previously serve,” he said. “And adding the Walgreens name benefits them.” Walgreens-OptionCare provides home IV, respiratory and DME in 36 states. The 24-year-old MedNow consists of several HME retail stores and pharmacies, and a home infusion pharmacy. The joint venture is a departure for Walgreens-OptionCare. It usually makes acquisitions not partnerships. Most recently, the company picked up Louisville, Ky.-based CuraScript in June (See HME News, August 2008). Walgreens said it will continue to look for growth opportunities. “We are open to more acquisitions to build our presence,” said Polzin. “If it's the right fit, we are going to do it.”
