Woman indicted for fraudulent air mattress sales

PITTSBURGH - A DME saleswoman was indicted Sept. 17 for fraud related to $400,000 she billed to Medicare for air mattress sales prosecutors say were based on false and forged documents. Mary Monica Wilson-Lefler, of Sewickley, Pa., sold mattresses to assisted living and personal care facilities with patients suffering with incontinence, compromised nutrition or circulation, impaired cognition and mobility problems, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports. Prosecutors say Wilson-Lefler made false claims about patients' health and forged the names of their caregivers, while obtaining prescriptions from physicians for the mattresses. She billed Medicare for $400,000 and paid equipment firms about $200,000. Wilson-Lefler is due to be arraigned Oct. 10.
