The Almighty HME Lobby?
If you didn't know better, you'd think, by reading recent articles in mainstream newspapers, that the HME industry has a powerful grip on members of Congress. Don't you wish that were the case?
Mirror Mirror the movie The Whole Ten Yards divx The Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal published articles Friday and today about the HME industry's success "putting a stop" to national competitive bidding. From the Post:
Congress authorized competitive bidding for medical equipment—and then bowed to pressure from the industry, putting a stop to the initiative just as it was being implemented.
What these articles fail to mention is that 1.) the program is still very much alive and kicking, and 2.) the industry paid for a delay in the program with a 9.5% reimbursement cut.
