CMS gives reason for delay in releasing names of winning bidders

This just in from the Open Door Forum this afternoon:

Michael Keane, Division of DMEPOS Competitive Bidding, Chronic Care Policy Group

"We wanted to provide an update on all the current information we have at this time concerning the announcement of the final list of the contract suppliers. In testing a new program integrity tool on the list of potential competitive bidding suppliers, a number of red flags were raised that require further examination before CMS announces the final list. Given the past history of fraud in the DME arena, especially in Miami, CMS believes that is prudent to take the time to review these issues to ensure the program is best positioned to serve Medicare beneficiaries. We expect to move forward with the implementation of the program very soon, beginning with the announcement of the contract suppliers and continuing our aggressive education and outreach activities for our beneficiaries and other stakeholders. Again this is all the info we have to report on today."

Given the history of fraud...CMS is running out of things to say. They hide behind the term fraud time and time again. DME fraud is drying up and the Great service providers like our organization are just keeping our head above water. Funny the more the OIG pat's itself on the back the more money is put into their budget. CMS and DC are just smoke and mirors and do not know how to answer a question. We cant provide the names of the winners because of FRAUD. BS...CMS
