Competitive bidding and house calls
When you have a few minutes, check out these news stories.
Othello dvdrip One reports on the concerns of HME providers in Ohio as they gear up for competitive bidding. They’ve got real fears, as they should, that companies without the necessary clinical expertise could submit bids and win. How CMS could allow that to happen, as it did in NCB’s first go-round, is beyond me.
is about hospitals resurrecting the practice of making house calls. Guess what? They're clinically effective and much less expensive than institutional care. This story is about doctors, but it speaks directly to the benefits of HME. I think the industry should look closely at this and use it as part of HME’s lobbying efforts in Washington. It can only help to bolster the argument that homecare should be a key component of healthcare reform.
