Healthcare reform clears Energy and Commerce
Members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee approved a draft healthcare reform bill late on Friday before they took off for their August recess. Industry stakeholders are still trying to get a handle on what's in the bill. One thing they do know: It contains a provision that would eliminate the first-month purchase option for standard power wheelchairs but not complex power wheelchairs.
NAIMES reported yesterday that the bill doesn't contain language from the Medicare Home Oxygen Therapy Act of 2009, AAHomecare's plan to reform the oxygen benefit.
Even though members of the committee approved a draft bill, their work is far from over. According to one stakeholder:
Confessions of an American Bride psp There are about 50 additional amendments that will be considered after the August recess. Ross' amendment is among those and will be considered in September upon their return. (Also), during the August recess the House leadership will try and meld the various packages, so lots more
work to do."
