Sleep problems: Not just for the old and overweight

Well, if you ever needed proof that sleep is becoming a key part of the healthcare lexicon here it is. My roommate, Amanda (age 26, normal weight) went to the doctor's this week because she is absolutely exhausted.

After being tested for everything from thyroid problems to an iron deficiency, the doc concluded that maybe she isn't getting enough sleep. It's not that she's up late watching infomercials, but rather, maybe she isn't cycling into the deepest phase of sleep so she never feels rested.

And, because she never feels rested, she hasn't been feeling well. At any rate, she has what sounds like an overnight oximetry test in her future, which I am pretty excited about (finally, HME in action). I may have to get out the camera for what we in the biz call "file photos."

Keep ya posted!
