CMS updates DMEPOS payments

WASHINGTON – CMS today announced a 9.1% increase for competitively bid DMEPOS items in non-competitive bidding areas and a 6.4% increase for bid items in former CBAs for calendar year 2023, AAHomecare reports.  Non-bid items will receive an 8.7% increase.  Typically, the CPI-U increases for DME have been 1%-3%. WASHINGTON - AAHomecare’s latest quarterly supplier number tracking sheet shows a continued decrease in traditional DMEPOS suppliers, with approximately 8,960 locations across the country. CMS posts 2022 fee schedule adjustments

WASHINGTON – CMS has published fee schedule adjustments of +5% or more for DMEPOS for calendar year 2022.   Adjustments differ depending on whether the items serviced are competitive bidding program (CBP) items or in former competitive bidding areas (CBAs). DME appeals represent 42% of ALJ backlog, AAH says

WASHINGTON – The Office of Medicare Hearing and Appeals (OMHA) has shared with AAHomecare that there were 201,292 appeals in the ALJ backlog at the end of 2020, about 85,000 of which involved DME. That’s a significant drop from 2019, the association says, when there were 318,000 appeals in the ALJ backlog, about 173,000 of which involved DME. In past years, DME appeals have represented up to 55% of the ALJ backlog, AAHomecare says.

CMS suspends certain requirements in hurricane's wake

WASHINGTON - CMS will temporarily suspend certain requirements for Medicare beneficiaries who have lost or sustained damage to the DMEPOS as a result of Hurricane Michael. This will help ensure beneficiaries can access the equipment and supplies they need, according to the announcement. The Category 4 storm made landfall in the Florida Panhandle Oct. 10. Medicare beneficiaries can call 1-800-MEDICARE for assistance.

HQAA widens access to AMPT

WATERLOO, Iowa - Any provider can now take advantage of HQAA's accreditation maintenance program. The online program, which helps providers stay up-to-date with accreditation standards, was previously available only to HQAA customers. The Accreditation Maintenance Program Toolkit (AMPT) covers a topic per month, highlighting important areas to check and review. The program also enables staff members to track and share progress with company leadership.

ACHC releases payment options for accreditation

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) is offering new payment options for providers seeking accreditation for DMEPOS, pharmacy, and sleep lab services, according to a press release.
