Memo could be catalyst in audit battle

WASHINGTON - A recent memo from the chief administrative law judge (ALJ) makes it clear that the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals (OMHA) is in over its head.In the Dec. 31 memo, which was sent to providers who currently have appeals pending, Chief ALJ Nancy Griswold states that the office's workload has increased 184% since 2010 and that the average number of appeals received each week has increased from 1,250 to 15,000. The legion of groups that represent wheelchair providers and manufacturers no longer includes the Power Mobility Coalition (PMC).
HME News called the PMC's director, Eric Sokol, this week and heard the following message: “You have reached the offices of the Power Mobility Coalition. The Power Mobility Coalition is now closed.
