Kathleen Jaeger: Pharmacists 'stand ready to help'


With issues like competitive bidding, diabetes mail order and reimbursement cuts posing threats to community pharmacists, it's a challenging time to take on the job of executive vice president and CEO of the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). But Kathleen Jaeger, who did just that in November, saw only a "wonderful opportunity." Jaeger, a pharmacist and lawyer by training, spoke with HME News recently about the future she sees for independent pharmacists.

Mastectomy: Challenging, but rewarding

AAHomecare's HME/RT Council has created a CPAP task force to look at ways to improve Medicare policy. On the agenda: policy requirements for coverage beyond the first three months of therapy; documentation and compliance requirements; and the use of advance beneficiary notices.

Sens. Baucus, Grassley urge CMS to use 'discretion' toward pharmacies


A couple of marquee-name senators last week asked Medicare to cut some slack for pharmacies that have not gotten accredited.
"They were concerned that CMS was going to start acting in a draconian fashion and crack down on pharmacies that haven't gone through accreditation," said John Norton, associate director of public relations for the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA).

While the community pharmacy industry waits to see what happens with a last minute Congressional push to extend the accreditation deadline for pharmacies, there is confusion over what they should do in the meantime.
