ATLANTA - As home medical equipment providers search for ways to re-invent themselves and explore new business horizons, sponsors of the Medtrade show are doing all they can to help give them the proper guidance. Medtrade show director Kevin Gaffney says this year's show will be filled with programs and events designed to furnish HME providers with solid, workable ideas to help steer them into lucrative new commercial ventures. He recently elaborated on the show's agenda in a Q & A interview.

A productive lunchtime for Medtrade attendees

Medtrade attendees have to find time in their busy schedules for lunch, so why not make it a productive repast? By combining a box lunch with roundtable discussions, show organizers are inviting the Monday crowd to a noontime event they call Lunch & Learn at the Georgia World Congress Center. For a $15 or $20 entrance fee, attendees can break bread with some of Medtrade's most popular seminar speakers, such as Louis Feuer, Miriam Lieber, Collette Weil and Bruce Brothis.

A. Regardless of who you use as accreditation organization, there are some common requirements that have been problematic for providers.
Performance improvement. This is more than just customer satisfaction surveys sitting in a pile. At minimum, you must aggregate and analyze data the results to determine if the process being measured meets expectations and review for opportunities to improve. Collect data on billing and coding errors, complaints, timeliness of response to customer complaints (see #2 below), incidents, illnesses/infection in the patient population you serve, and of course, customer satisfaction. Your specific accreditor may require some additional topics.
