Stand up and be counted

AAHomecare will host its semi-annual reception to raise funds for the Stand Up for Homecare Campaign on the first evening of Medtrade--Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the Georgia World Congress Center. Please attend this reception and help enhance public awareness about the entire home medical equipment sector.

Fundraisers seek industry support

ATLANTA - Fundraising organizers are counting heavily on the HME industry's support in two separate events on Tuesday, Oct. 25. AAHomecare's "Stand Up for Homecare" and MK Battery's "Power For Funding" both aim to get Medtrade attendees to open their wallets for their individual causes.

Planes, trains and competitive bidding

Wednesday, March 16, 2011

There are no direct flights from Portland to DC, so I flew in to Baltimore. That means a combination of car, plane, shuttle, train and taxi to get to my destination. I enjoyed a free business class upgrade, a flight that landed early and an easy hop on a train.

The Scooter Store to AAH: It's not you; it's me

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

The best way to sum up The Scooter Store’s decision to leave AAHomecare may be the familiar break-up phrase, it’s not you; it’s me.

CRMC sets priorities

Members of AAHomecare's Complex Rehab and Mobility Council (CRMC) finalized their priorities for 2011 recently. What they came up with, says Tim Pederson, past chairman, includes but goes beyond the "white noise" of competitive bidding. "We wanted to seize on some different opportunities," he said.

With checks in hand

NCART, NRRTS and AAHomecare each received checks for $24,356 from MK Battery at Medtrade in November. "They've always been a great company and backed us up," said John Zona, president of NRRTS. "They've gone above and beyond now." For a six-month period earlier this year, MK Battery set aside $1 for every gel battery it sold, raising $73,068. "We just thought about, in a management meeting one day, 'How can we help the industry in this chaotic time?'" said David Brunelle, vice president of sales for MK Battery. The associations will use the money to, among other things, help fuel efforts to create a separate benefit for complex rehab.

Medtrade: Best in show

So I had time to walk the show floor a little bit today and I noticed some of the exhibitors doing some pretty innovative things to catch the attention of attendees.

For real results, leverage HME industry's upside

But for the HME sector, the same familiar forces will be pushing against us, perhaps even harder: the pressure to cut federal spending; the idea that the flawed bidding results are suitable benchmarks for Medicare pricing; and the eagerness of federal agencies to treat HME like a commodity industry instead of a cost-effective, service-intensive sector that plays an essential role in the continuum of care.

You care. I care. But does CMS care? That is the question.

Friday, October 15, 2010

Over the past week or so while performing my work here at HME News, I ran across the idea of “caring” several times. It made me realize that most of us take caring for granted. I know I do. It’s just what we do. We care about out jobs. We care about our families.
