CMS dishes on demo

HME News reached out to CMS to get its thoughts on the PMD demo. Here's what the agency had to say.
How's it going?
CMS is pleased with the implementation of the PA demonstration and will continue to monitor its progress and make changes as appropriate when indicated.
Where's the data?
CMS is in the initial stage of collecting data for the analysis and evaluating the effectiveness of the demonstration. As the demonstration progresses and sufficient data has been gathered, CMS will share this information.
What happens next?
The purpose of the demonstration is to determine whether prior authorization for a PMD is an effective tool to investigate and prosecute fraud, while at the same time reducing improper payments. If effective, CMS may consider using prior authorization for other items.
