Wanted: PMD data from demo states

WASHINGTON - Now that the new PMD demo is up and running in seven states, AAHomecare has launched a data collection project to monitor its progress.

The association asked providers in a bulletin on Sept. 4 to send prior authorization denials and affirmative letters to [email protected].

As part of the demo, providers in California, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, and Texas need to submit prior authorization requests for power mobility devices.

The demo calls for CMS to send approvals or denials to the ordering physician, patient and provider. Denials should include detailed descriptions of why contractors couldn't approve the request.

AAHomecare will collect those responses to better provide demo feedback to CMS.

“The association will continue to scrutinize (the demo) closely and will send further suggestions to CMS as data are collected,” it stated.
