Aeroflow: Pandemic impacting urology

ARDEN, N.C. – Almost half of the respondents to a survey conducted by Aeroflow Urology say their trips to the bathroom have increased since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings from the survey include: 25% report altering their schedules to urinate more often; 22% who had COVID report having more frequent urges to urinate; 53% report urinating more than six times in 24 hours; and 43% report decreased physical activity and an increase in trips to the bathroom. OIG: ‘Telehealth was critical during pandemic’

WASHINGTON – More than two in five Medicare beneficiaries, or 28 million, used telehealth during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to a new report from the Office of Inspector General.
In total, beneficiaries used 88 times more telehealth services during the first year of the pandemic than they used in the prior year, the OIG found.

INDIANAPOLIS – Apria Healthcare has reported net revenue of $296.5 million for the fourth quarter of 2021, up 0.9% compared to the same period in 2020. Net income was $17 million vs. $25.9 million, down 34.5%.
The company reported net revenue of $1.15 billion for the full year 2021, up 3.3% compared to full year 2020. Net income was $64.9 million vs. $46.1 million, up 40.6%.

Providers struggle with staffing shortages due to COVID-19

YARMOUTH, Maine – HME companies are struggling to maintain business as usual amid the latest wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 42% of respondents to a recent HME Newspoll saying 6% to 10% of their staff is in quarantine.

WASHINGTON – Xavier Becerra, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, has extended the COVID-19 public health emergency for another 90 days from Oct. 18. There are a number of HME-related provisions tied to the PHE, including Medicare’s 75/25 blended rates for non-rural, non-competitive bidding areas, and telehealth and other policy waivers.
