ACU-Serve recommits to resupply

Jim KnightAKRON, Ohio – ACU-Serve recently made its first acquisition since a private equity investment in October, putting into action its plan to offer more than billing and collections, and revenue cycle management services.

ACU-Serve announced in March that it had acquired Siesta Key, Fla.-based Beyond HME, a company that provides live calling services for CPAP resupply. ACU-Serve previously announced a partnership with Beyond HME in February.

“We want to be the one-stop shop,” said Jim Knight, president of ACU-Serve. “We’re looking for things that we’re not currently doing and bringing those in house. The provider community is very important to us. We want to help companies stay independent and for us to do that successfully, we have to solve as many problems as we possibly can.”

Just prior to the acquisition, Beyond HME also bolstered its offering through a partnership with S3, a company that offers a SaaS platform that helps providers maximize resupply through a patient management software solution, an app, email campaigns and a web portal.

ACU-Serve made the decision to buy Beyond HME after “really seeing” how much it could move the needle for provider customers, Knight says.

“We saw a 30% to 50% increase in revenue in resupply per month,” he said. “We really wanted to double down on that.”

While the focus to date has been on CPAP resupply, Knight sees a “huge opportunity” to apply the same model to other product categories like wound care, enteral and continuous glucose monitoring.

“That’s where we’ll continue to focus in 2024,” he said.

With an eye toward that growth, Beyond HME, which has been in business for only 13 months, plans to expand its team of live callers from 30 to 60 by the end of this year, says Jim Dragatsis, who will lead ACU-Serve’s resupply business with Margaret Lindskog.

“With what’s going on in the industry right now, we knew the timing was right to capitalize on this,” said Dragatsis, who previously also founded AllCall Connect. “People will say, ‘Wow, that was quick to sell,’ but we’re prepared to show why we did this in the upcoming year. People will see why it made so much sense.”
