Canadian Seating & Mobility Conference to showcase innovative products, continuing education

Dave DaviesTORONTO – VGM Canada will host hundreds of seating, mobility and complex rehab technology professionals in Toronto on Sept. 9-10 for 30 education sessions and more than 50 exhibit hall booths.

The Canadian Seating & Mobility Conference (CSMC) will feature a “New Product Walk” in the exhibit hall on the first day of the event. During the walk, attendees will vote for the new product that they think should win the annual Harding Award for Product Innovation, which will be named on the second day of the event.

“We also have five partners supporting the event: Amylior, ETAC, Permobil, Pride Mobility/Quantum Rehab and Sunrise Medical,” said Dave Davies, president of VGM Canada. “They’re our big supporters.”

At CSMC, VGM Canada will also name the 2025 HME Leader of the Year. The award, previously named the HME Woman of the Year, honors an individual who makes meaningful contributions to the home medical equipment (HME) or mobility industry in Canada.

In addition to products, attendees will sample education sessions that run the gamut from “Power Up Your Ride: Less Effort, More Adventure” by Jessica Presperin Pedersen of Sunrise Medical to “Smart Wheelchairs Have Arrived – What’s Next” by Dr. Pooja Viswanathan of Braze Mobility to “Beyond the Joystick: Navigating the World of Alternative Power Wheelchair Controls” by Ryan Cavender of Stealth Products.

“We’re the premiere event in Canada for continuing education,” Davies said. “That’s what we’re known for.”

So much so that, for the first time, VGM Canada will host a second event with a similar format next year called CSMC East on April 29-30 in Moncton, New Brunswick. Davies says because CSMC draws about 80% of its audience from the greater Toronto area, VGM Canada has wanted to cast a wider net for some time. CSMC East, which will be hosted in conjunction with the Maritime Home Medical Provider Association (MHMPA), will draw attendees from Quebec and the Atlantic Provinces, he says.

“We’re testing the waters,” he said. “Maybe CSMC East will be CSMC West the following year and we’ll alternate between the two in the spring, with the main event always in Toronto in the fall.”
