Complex rehab: Time running out for sign-on letter

WASHINGTON – Today is the final day to secure signatures for a sign-on letter in the House of Representatives urging CMS to move quickly to establish Medicare coverage of power seat elevation and standing systems for complex power wheelchairs.

Reps. Jim Langevin, D-R.I., Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., Debbie Dingell, D-Mich., and John Rose, R-Tenn., extended the deadline from Oct. 3 to Oct. 6 to give congressional offices more time to review the letter and give supporters more time to encourage representatives to sign on, according to NCART.

The current list of 68 representatives who have signed the letter can be viewed here. If a representative's name is not on that list, supporters can either email representatives directly or go to www.protectmymobility.org to ask them to sign on.

The deadline for a Senate version of the letter was Sept. 30.

CMS on Aug. 15 opened a 30-day comment period for the request to reconsider the NCD for mobility assistive equipment for power seat elevation but not for power standing systems. The agency closed the comment period on Sept. 14.
