LEXINGTON, Mass. – It’s the right time for a new platform to power KabaFusion’s operations and the company’s new partnership with CareCloud provides an opportunity to build it with all the “bells and whistles,” says CEO Dr. Sohail Masood.
KabaFusion and CareCloud announced in August that they’re working together to create LailaCare, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered platform that will provide end-to-end operational and clinical support.
“We’ve had a relationship with CareCloud for the past three years and we asked them if they can build a software for KabaFusion,” Masood said. “It will take away most of the Band-Aids (we’ve been using on an antiquated system), and we will have a streamlined software from beginning to end.”
The new platform will handle everything from patient intake to eligibility authorization, pharmacy dispensing and nursing services, to revenue cycle management and financial reports.
Human touch is still a priority
Because the AI-powered platform will be able to take on KabaFusion’s back-office and administrative functions, the company will be able to maintain its high level of patient-centered care, with the human touch it is known for, says Masood. Nurses will still be in patient homes to provide treatment, and pharmacists will still communicate directly with patients and physicians.
“That’s not going to change,” he said.
What will change, for the better: The system will provide greater visibility into the patient journey.
“Physicians can go in, see how (a particular patient) is doing – maybe it’s time that she needs to be seen,” he said. “We’re creating kind of an Epic, but a much cheaper form of Epic.”
Platform could support future growth
KabaFusion and CareCloud have only just begun launching the platform, but down the road, the company may offer the platform more widely if it proves to have market appeal, Masood says.
The system could also set the company up for further growth: Earlier this year, Nautic Partners completed an investment in the company.
“Whenever the next round of investment comes, we believe it will increase the value of the company,” said Masood. “I think (LailaCare) is going to work out really well for us.”
