MedCare, Life Tech and HomeTown Oxygen win awards

YARMOUTH, Maine - MedCare Equipment Company of Greensburg, Pa., has taken home the top prize in this year's HME Excellence Awards.

John Sphon, CEO, and Patty Mastandrea, COO, were on hand at the HME News Business Summit, Sept. 13-15, in Nashville to accept their award.

This year's judges, Miriam Lieber, Jonathan Sadock and Anna McDevitt, commended MedCare for its strong financials amid so much upheaval in the HME industry.

Mastandrea told HME News that solid business principles are the foundation of the company's success.

“Like many of our counterparts, we are facing an increasing demand for our products and services, while getting paid less for them,” she said. “To make matters more challenging, we believe there will be a continuing need and focus on services provided in the home. So one of the key challenges will be, how do we meet this growing demand and provide our customers with quality products and timely service, while getting paid substantially less for it?”

Life Tech of Elmhurst, Ill., took home second place, and HomeTown Oxygen of Charlotte, N.C., took home third place. Brian Dacy, president of Life Tech, and Shawn Stacy, CEO of HomeTown Oxygen, were also on hand at the Summit to accept their awards.

Profiles of all three companies will appear in the Show Dailies, the onsite newspapers at Medtrade, Oct. 26-29 in Atlanta.

Applications for next year's HME Excellence Awards will be available in the spring.
