O&P stakeholders push legislative priorities, honor professionals

WASHINGTON – Sen. Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill., joined more than 30 stakeholders, advocates and leaders from around the orthotics and prosthetics (O&P) profession at the offices of Powers Pyles Sutter & Verville PC in Washington, D.C., as part of the second annual in-person legislative fly-in hosted by the National Association for the Advancement of Orthotics and Prosthetics (NAAOP) and sponsored by the Orthotic and Prosthetic Group of America (OPGA). Duckworth is an introducing sponsor of the Medicare O&P Centered Care Act, S. 2329 and H.R. 4475, bills that would improve patient access to specialized care, stop mail-order fraud and update replacement rules for medical braces and artificial limbs. “NAAOP’s second in-person congressional fly-In was a great success and was only possible because of OPGA’s sponsorship," said Peter Thomas, General Counsel of NAAOP. "Thirty-two dedicated O&P patients and practitioners advanced O&P policies in our nation's capital, continuing the work of AOPA’s Policy Forum. We are so grateful for those who took the time to participate in this important event.” The fly-in also included more than 60 meetings with legislators and their staff to advocate for ensuring access to quality care and preventing fraud and abuse. Additionally, the event included a luncheon to honor Elijah Brummond, NAAOP’s 2026 George & Dena Breece Fellow, and a dinner to recognize OPGA’s and Össur’s grant winners, Alex Ogar of Resident at Stance Health Solutions and Ruth Guiness, CPO/LPO, of A Step Ahead Kids.
