Philips Respironics blasts rumors

MURRYSVILLE, Pa. - Philips Respironics last week denied rumors that it plans to sell its sleep products direct to consumers. "Some of our competitors would have you believe that we intend to go around our existing customers and sell directly to patients," stated CEO Donald Spence in a letter to providers. "We have absolutely no plans to do this. While it's true that Philips offers consumer products, our core products are prescribed medical devices that require specialized care to help ensure effective therapy and compliance. We will continue to work to provide solutions to providers and clinicians that expand the home healthcare channel." Philips Respironics sent the letter because it believes "it is critical to openly address the concerns we are hearing from some customers and to correct any misinformation about our business strategy to serve you now that we are part of Philips," Spence stated. In the letter, Philips Respironics also tried to clear up "confusion" surrounding its SupplyDirect program. SupplyDirect allows providers to order and ship sleep replacement supplies directly to the homes of their patients.
